About Diego,
Diego Andreas Rivera was born in Miami, FL to Salvadorian parents. As refugees of war his parents settled in the US in search of the American dream. Rivera explored his narrative of the "American Dream" continuously throughout his design development. The conversation of our current political climate and western setreotypes attributed to Latinx culture are constantly explored with-in his work.
As a child Rivera would wet paper towels to drape and mold around his sisters barbies, freezing them to create intricate designs. Thus, planting the seed nurturing his need to create. The introduction of Galliano, McQueen, and Mugler further impacted Riveras interest in fashion. As a young teen Rivera grew up surrounded by queer and artistic students. Visuals of the flamboyant characters that lit up the might inspired Rivera to turn his thoughts into tangible assets. Now, as a student at the Academy of Art University his studies on menswear have helped transform his visions into realities.
