Diego Andreas Rivera was born in Miami, Florida, to Salvadoran parents who arrived in the United States as refugees of war in search of the American Dream. That inheritance — the promise, the cost, and the contradictions of it — sits at the center of Rivera's design practice. Across his body of work, he returns again and again to the myth of the American Dream, using it as a lens to interrogate the current political climate and the Western stereotypes so often projected onto Latinx culture and identity.
